I had another fun adventure at the hospital t'other day at the clinical investigation department (ooooh), for nerve conduction testing- very odd experience, the room looked like a physics lab with loads of cables and electrical shiznaz. So after electric shocking me a couple of times and measuring bits of my leg with a tape measure, mr dr man (who was very nice, but I couldn't make out his accent too well which made it all a bit more crazy) decided there was a problem so it was time to bust out an EMG (electromyography. possibly) which involves NEEDLES put in your MUSCLES and then getting electric shocked. Firstly, I readily admit to being a wimp, coward, whatever. Also, I hate needles. Well not really hate. Have enormous fear of... yeah that's the one. So I started panicking (what I do best) and mr dr man was saying "please stop with the hyperventilation, this is not good" in his marvellous but very strong Jamaican or something accent. So we had to stop for bloody ages while I calmed down and then he started putting more needles in and I started panicking and on it went. And I left the hospital VERY embarrassed and also kind of wondering what the point of it all was as it wasn't obvious? Was quite interesting though as I remember learning about EMGs and oscillioscopes and all that in Physics lessons, and the way you could SEE AND HEAR the nerve being stimulated, well the waves and stuff on the machine.. pretty cool (I am still a nerd).
